Big Horn Basin Outfitting has the expertise and knowledge to provide you with a hunt of a lifetime as premier Wyoming Outfitters. We are continuing the history of one of the longest running Hunting Camps in Wyoming. We operate in the Shoshone National Forest and Bridger / Teton National Forest.

About Your Outfitters:

Dean Johnson started guiding and outfitting in the area in 1967. As the former owner he is still deeply involved in the operation by helping with the bookings and is still doing some guiding.

The area was formerly owned by Les Bowman who was a well known outdoor writer back in the 50s and 60s. A lot of hunting stories were published by him and Jack O'Connor who was a good friend of Bowman's and hunted with him many times. Also, there are some stories published about when Teddy Roosevelt hunted the area before Bowman.

The area still produces trophy class animals comparable to the heads taken out of there thirty and forty years ago. We limit the number of hunters so that we don't overload the area. The main reasons for the high percentage kill: a good area, most of the hunts are 7 to 10 days with a 1 x 1 guide ratio on most hunts. Some of the guides have worked in the business for over 40 years.

We are not only world class hunting outfitters... we also offer fly fishing and spin fishing and horse pack trips! For those of you looking for a wilderness camping experience in the beautiful scenic mountains surrounding Yellowstone Park, we cater to groups... families, singles, couples, all men groups and all women groups for horseback riding, stream fishing, lake fishing, and wilderness photography.

Nestled in the heart of Washakie Wilderness area just 8 miles from Yellowstone Park and 12 miles in from the main road, at 9500 feet in elevation, is our base camp that we use for all of our wilderness hunts.
