Big Horn Basin Outfitting has the expertise and knowledge to provide you
with a hunt of a lifetime as premier Wyoming Outfitters. We are continuing the history of one of the
longest running hunting camps in Wyoming. We operate in the Shoshone
National Forest and Bridger-Teton National Forest.
Dean Johnson
started guiding and outfitting in the area in 1967. As the former owner, he is still deeply involved in the operation. He not only assists with bookings but continues to do some guiding.
The camp was
formerly owned by Les Bowman, a well known outdoor and hunting writer of the 1950s and 1960s. Bowman and Jack
O'Connor, another well-known outdoor author and Bowman's good friend, were inspired by these surroundings that they explored and hunted together. The camp has further historical value as President Theodore Roosevelt hunted the area during his adventures out West.
The environment still
produces trophy class animals comparable to the heads of thirty and forty years ago. Today, we limit the number of hunters so that we
do not overload the area. Our hunters are very successful for a few reasons:
- a
first class area
- 7 to 10 day hunts
- a one to one guide to hunter ratio
- experienced guides, some of whom have worked in the business for over
40 years.
